Simply put, it is a place to come together — to connect, make friends, stay active, learn something new, share your talents, enjoy nature, volunteer, or just have a place to belong. Located on 18 beautiful acres just outside Hudson, 570 Coulee is designed to be a "third place" — somewhere outside of home and work where people can gather by choice, build relationships, and continue to be an important part of their community.

Why was 570 Coulee created?

The idea behind 570 Coulee started with a pretty simple realization: people need people. As people move into retirement and different stages of life, there can actually be fewer natural opportunities to meet people, make new friends, stay involved, and feel connected to the community. A conversation between a few community members about that need continued to grow. What started with two people became three, then four, and eventually a group of people who believed we could create something different for the St. Croix Valley. 570 Coulee was created to provide a welcoming, intentional place where adults 55+ can connect, contribute, learn, stay active, spend time outdoors, share their experiences and simply belong.

What are you raising $100,000 for?

Our $100,000 Founding Support Campaign is designed to fund approximately the first nine months of operations and property-related expenses for 570 Coulee. Our situation is a little unique because we purchased the property before launching our larger capital campaign. In many nonprofit projects, those steps happen in the opposite order. This campaign gives us the financial stability we need right now while allowing our board and volunteers to build and launch the larger capital campaign that will support the long-term vision for the property.

Why is this project needed?

There currently is not a freestanding space in the Hudson area dedicated specifically to adults 55+. We have great organizations, programs and resources throughout the St. Croix Valley, but 570 Coulee is intended to fill a different need — a place people can come to regularly, not because they need a service, but because they want to be there. A place to meet someone for coffee. Take a class. Go for a walk. Volunteer. Learn something new. Share a hobby. Attend an event. Spend time outside. Or simply be around other people. We believe creating opportunities for connection, purpose and belonging can make our entire community stronger.

Who owns and manages the property?

The property is owned by The Butterfly Path, Inc. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, with the property and programs supported by our board and a growing team of community volunteers.

How can I donate?

100% of donations support 570 Coulee and its expenses. We are fortunate to have a 100% volunteer Board of Directors whose members donate their time and expertise to moving this project forward.

What safeguards are in place to make sure donations are used as intended?

570 Coulee operates under The Butterfly Path, Inc., an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Funds are overseen by our Board of Directors and Treasurer and are managed through the organization's established financial and accounting processes. Our board has a responsibility to ensure donated funds are used in support of the organization's charitable mission and in accordance with donor restrictions when applicable. We take that responsibility seriously and are committed to being good stewards of every dollar entrusted to us.

We believe the impact of 570 Coulee goes far beyond the property itself. Our goal is to create a place where adults 55+ can build friendships, stay active, continue learning, volunteer, share their skills and experiences, enjoy nature and remain meaningfully connected to their community. Programming will focus on areas such as social connection, lifelong learning, health and wellness, outdoor and nature-based activities, volunteerism and intergenerational opportunities. We also see 570 Coulee as a place that brings generations together. Our older adults have an incredible amount of knowledge, talent and life experience to share. Creating opportunities for those gifts to stay connected to the broader community benefits all of us.

How does 570 Coulee fit with other resources already available in our community?

We are fortunate to have many great organizations and resources serving older adults throughout the St. Croix Valley, including senior centers, ADRC, Community Education and others. 570 Coulee isn't looking to replace or duplicate the great work already being done. We want to add to it. Our goal is to work alongside these organizations, build partnerships and help connect people with the resources and opportunities already available in our community. 570 Coulee offers something a little different — a dedicated gathering place for adults 55+ centered around connection, purpose, lifelong learning, wellness and belonging. We believe we can accomplish more by working together. As 570 Coulee grows, we look forward to finding ways to collaborate, share resources and create new opportunities that complement the programs and services already available throughout the St. Croix Valley.

Is there a cost to participate?

570 Coulee is membership-based. Annual membership is $50. Our goal is to keep membership affordable while helping support the programming and ongoing operations of the organization.

What if someone cannot afford the membership fee?

We don't want finances to be the reason someone cannot be part of 570 Coulee. Sliding-scale membership options are available. Please contact admin@570coulee.org for additional information.

How will you measure success?

For us, success isn't going to be measured by just one number. Of course, we will track things like membership, program participation, volunteer involvement and use of the property. But some of the most important measures will be harder to put on a spreadsheet. Are people making new connections? Are friendships forming? Are people finding opportunities to contribute? Do members feel like they belong? Are people discovering new interests and reasons to stay engaged? To help answer those questions, we invite members to complete our Vitality Snapshot, a brief, voluntary check-in rooted in whole-person health and flourishing. By listening to how members feel about their connection, joy, and sense of purpose over time, we can ensure our spaces and gatherings are truly helping people thrive. Ultimately, success means creating a place people want to be — and a place that makes our community stronger because it exists.

How can I get involved besides donating?

Volunteer! 570 Coulee is being built by the community, for the community, and there are going to be many ways to get involved — from helping with programs and events to property projects, fundraising, committees and sharing your own skills or interests.
